Course Migrations
Course Migration Update
Courses from Moodle to Canvas are migrated in large batches during several migration waves: Migration waves timeline:
May/June 2024. Complete – Summer/Fall 2024 courses now in Canvas
Oct./Nov. 2024. In Progress – Spring 2025 course migration in process
Late November 2024 – Spring 2025 courses on Canvas
Fall 2024 Course Migrations
Fall 2024 marks the first semester where Canvas is used for all courses. In June, nearly 400 Moodle courses were migrated, allowing us to meet our goal of transitioning fully to Canvas for Fall 2024. This bulk migration included one copy of each course taught in Summer and Fall 2024, along with the most recent or Master course versions and selected additional courses.
Spring 2025 Course Migrations
We are pleased to offer another opportunity for additional Moodle to Canvas course migrations for Spring 2025. This applies to courses not yet migrated to Canvas or those missed in the previous migration. To avoid duplication of migrated courses, only one copy of each course from Moodle will be migrated to Canvas.
Course migration requests must be submitted using the
(Please note: a separate submission is required for each course migration request).
Prior to submitting a course migration request:
- Consult with your program director/chair if a version of your course (or Master course) was previously migrated from Moodle to Canvas (if so, no need to submit a new migration request)
- You will need the course subject code and URL for each Moodle course, which can be found in your Moodle course list
- You will need the course subject code and URL for each Canvas course, which can be found in your Canvas course list
Please note that migrated courses will start being available in Canvas by late November, allowing time for review and any necessary updates before the Spring 2025 term begins.
Once the content is copied to Canvas, you will need to review your course and do some cleanup. Please consult the Migration Cleanup Guide. It contains an important list of things that do not migrate well from Moodle and may need to be fixed or rebuilt.
